Mishna Study Following Mincha each weekday afternoon (M-Th) at 1:30 PM, we learn a different Mishna each day, using commentary of Rabbi Pinchas Kehati.

Coffee with the Rabbi. Mondays 11-noon at Starbucks on Main Street. Come and chat about whatever is on your mind. Recent discussions have dealt with reincarnation, past lives, astrology and right brain vs. left brain dominance mediating our ways of perception.
 
Tuesday Tea with the Rabbi (new program) 12:30 in the Green Room at JR's Bar and Grill. This is a structured discussion on situational ethics, dealing with current events and moral dillemmas. Co-led with Dr. Paul Solomon.
 
Advanced Hebrew. Wednesdays 10:30 - 11:30. Learning to understand the meaning of the prayers we say. We translate and structurally deconstruct the phraseology, comparing various translations for accuracy and feel. Open to those who have mastered Introductory Hebrew. Parshat HaShavuah, the weekly Torah portion. Mondays from 9:00 to 10:50 AM. Study in depth the weekly sedrah of the Torah. Each week we cover in full the entire Torah reading. Each verse in chanted in Hebrew and then translated and discussed in English, comparing several commentaries where appropriate. No Hebrew is necessary. We meet at Temple Israel of the Poconos. Mishna. Ethics of the Fathers. In depth discussion of this classic mishna text. Each mishna is read in Hebrew and then translated, with open discussion following each reading. Meets every Shabbat morning following Kiddush following services at Temple Israel of the Poconos. (STARS ACADEMY)
 
Introduction to Judaism. What are the basic beliefs and ideas found in Judaism? What are the ideals and values unique to Judaism that are rooted in our Torah? What do we mean by Torah? What is law? What is custom? Meets every Shabbat morning before services at 9:15 AM, at Temple Israel of the Poconos (STARS ACADEMY).
 

BI-WEEKLY (FIRST AND THIRD THURSDAYS OF THE MONTH)

Mussar Workshop. Led by Dr. Mel Rosenthal, certified by the Mussar Institute, we study and learn to incorporate into our lives positive character traits to deepen our emotional maturity. Mussar is a 200 year old psycho-social system of daily practice which has led to much growth and personal development.
 
Recent meetings have focused on gratitude, patience, humility and creating a sense  of order in our lives. 7 PM First and third Thursdays of the month. We meet in the library of Temple Israel of the Poconos. (STARS ACADEMY)
 
Entering Shabbos. Led by Rabbi Melman on Mandolin. A musical meditation involving chanting and rhythmic percussion. Participatory. Learn to chant niggunim (wordless melodies) as a spiritual practice to attain mystical oneness. Meets in the library of Temple Israel of the Poconos following the Mussar workshop, from 8:00 to 8:30 PM. (STARS ACADEMY)
